Your electrical panel is the central hub of your entire system, and winter conditions can cause more damage than many homeowners realize.
When inspecting your panel, look for:
• Rust or corrosion on breakers or the panel door
• Moisture, condensation, or water staining nearby
• Burn marks, discoloration, or melted insulation
• Breakers that feel warm to the touch
• Breakers that trip repeatedly or won’t reset
If your panel is located in a basement, crawl space, or utility room, moisture intrusion is especially common after snowmelt. Any sign of corrosion or heat is a red flag and should be evaluated by a licensed electrician.
